Bookworm Broadcast Bookworm Broadcast

It’s a book! No, it’s a board game!

No, it’s lots of board games! :D I found the coolest book for Sammie on sale at the grocery store the other day! It’s called “Your World: 5 Games About You and Your World” - it is so much fun! It is a ‘board book’, but, it is really five board games - all in one! I love it! And Sammie does, too! We’ve been having tons of fun playing all the games - and she even took it to her Aunt Donna’s for a sleepover and they had fun playing it together!

Normally I would show you a picture, by way of an Amazon link, or at least a picture that I’ve taken - or a picture from some other website. I can’t seem to find the book online anywhere, though! (My camera batteries are dead…)

I did find the publisher’s website, though - and I absolutely adore their products and their very interactive site! The name of the company is Innovative Kids and they have sections on their site for kids, for grownups, and for teachers and librarians. They also have links to other helpful literacy/education resources, and they, of course, have their store pages.

I imagine the book I found is no longer in print, and that is why I found it so deeply discounted, as I can’t even find it on their site. I am glad, however, to have found this company! I will definitely keep them in mind when shopping for books and information!

If I remember when I get my camera batteries, I’ll take a picture of this book, it’s just so cool. It has a self-contained little compartment with the game pieces in it. And attached to that is the spinner. So the whole thing is perfectly portable - so you can easily take it on the go with you - to Grandma’s house or wherever! I just love it!

The funny thing was, though, that the games are sort of small, as far as board games go. And so I thought they would be fun, but, short, little games that didn’t take ages and ages to play. Boy - was I ever wrong! On one of the games, I got stuck in a loop of sorts, and the darned game was taking forever. Sammie was laughing her head off every time I landed on the space that was sending me back through the loop! Now when she asks to play her new game book, I cringe, “Not that one that tortures me!” And she busts up laughing! Ha!

Camping Rocks

Our family loves to go camping - we all love being out in the wilderness! That is one good thing about having moved to Alabama - we are right next door to a National Forest. It is wonderful, and so beautiful. And whenever we decide to go camping, I just pack my clothes and show up. That is one thing my husband is very on top of - camping gear. He has everything we need, and he knows just how to organize it and pack it and set it up when we get there. I pretty much just sit back and relax and listen to the sounds in the trees. There’s nothing like reading a favorite book in the middle of the woods, feet propped up, and not a care in the world. It’s pure Heaven, I tell you. Oh my, I might’ve just talked myself into another camping trip! I better go tell Mark…

Depriving my children of great knowledge

Just what is wrong with me?! I’m so silly! Do you remember when I told you how excited I was, because, I was going to be oiling my brain with intellectual literature? Well, I had bought these two great new books - and the other night as I was reading The Intellectual Devotional, I thought to myself, ‘Self, why aren’t I reading this to the children?’ We could all enjoy this - as a family!

The knowledge just comes in small bits, quick to read and easy to absorb. And quite often, what I read spurs me on to research more on the topic! I seriously am just loving this book! And I’m not sharing it with the family! What kind of ‘Mama Bookworm’ am I?

It could be a nice time for the family to sit together for a few minutes, enjoy each other’s company, and learn something all at the same time!

Well, I’m the only one home right now, so I guess this won’t start tonight. Mark and the kids are at Mark’s cousin’s house and I’m home blogging my little heart out. I suppose if they don’t get home too late tonight - we could go ahead and read it.

They are off of school for a week for fall break! Woohoo!

Ya’ll just don’t tell any of my bookworm friends what a knowledge-hoarder I’ve been, ok? ;)
Oh crud - ya’ll are my bookworm friends! Eeps!

Ah heck, just….

Halloween is coming and I’m so excited!

pumpkincat.jpg

I absolutely LOVE Halloween! We all have so much fun every year - even my hubby! And now we live right next to a neighborhood that goes absolutely Halloween-CRAZY! It is the coolest Halloween neighborhood I’ve ever seen! Just about the whole town is out and about in this neighborhood on Halloween night - we even ran into the kids teachers! And oops! Hubby was going around scaring people with this creepy mask on - and he accidentally scared our daughter’s teacher - it was embarrassing and hysterical all at the same time!

My family and I just love Halloween, though! We always have a total blast that night! And I, for one, always come home that night feeling more connected to my community - in all of the communities that we have lived. That is a cool thing.

And I love Halloween so much that I’ve made four Squidoo lenses all about Halloween!

I am just so excited! I have a friend back in Texas, who I’m sure is already decorating! You should see her house when she gets done with it - it looks amazing! If you’re in Waxahachie, Texas in the next few weeks, just drive down Main Street - you won’t miss it!

I think I’ll definitely ask my husband to get down the Halloween decorations this weekend!

And I’ll be sure to tell you about the great Halloween books I run across, as well!

Hamburger Recipes

It’s funny, but, Mark is taking vacation since we’ve been home from our vacation! Well, he worked the entire time we were in Dallas, so I guess he’s due. And it’s been kind of fun having him around the house. We’ve been to the museum, he keeps taking the kids out shopping, and we have nice dinners together every night. I might look through some different hamburger recipes for tonight.

When we were in Dallas, the topic came up one night of ‘your favorite hamburgers’. Everyone had a different idea of what person or restaurant served the best ones. My favorite ones were made by my Uncle Pat. I said, “Micky, remember Uncle Pat’s - out there on that back deck? Oh man! They were so awesome!” I’m sure it was at least 50% atmosphere, but, those are some very delicious memories!! I used to have a hamburger cookbook, but, I’ve lost it in between all of our moves. I recently saw another cookbook that looked pretty neat called, The Great Big Burger Book, by Elizabeth Yeh. I might just have to pick that one up!
