When my kids were little, I kept a plastic tablecloth ready at all times. When they wanted to paint or create anything, we cleared off the floor, laid out the tablecloth and went to work! It was one of those sturdy, semi-thick kinds of tablecloths so it lasted through a lot of years of art. It was great, all being on the floor together creating, it made for easy paint and supply-sharing. And when we were through, I just wiped it down with a wet sponge, let it dry, and then put it away. Ahhh…I miss those days! I might just have to make them all paint with me after school today, whether they want to or not! I’m sure they’ll have fun once we get started!

My mom and my sister-in-law sent the kids my very favorite gifts ever - yep! Books!
What better gift can there possibly be? ![]()
One of the books that Shawn got was called, The Black Tattoo.
I haven’t read the book, yet - but, it looks really neat!
And he really enjoyed it. And the part that has me so jazzed?
The cover! Yes, the cover! You open it up and it is a huge poster - merging the arts, you gotta love that!

I stumbled upon the neatest book this morning while I was browsing on Squidoo.
Have you guys joined Squidoo yet? I love this site - you can check out my first lens here: Kids Love Halloween!
So I was browsing around on Squidoo - different lenses for kids, or for books, or for kids and books, and I stumbled upon what could easily be the My Very Own Mail Mascot Book!
The book is called, “Wow! I’m Reading! Fun Activities to Make Reading Happen” and it provides wonderful - and fun - ideas for teaching little ones to read. It is part of a series and they also have books on science, math, and even arts and crafts! And let me tell you, doing arts and crafts with little ones is one of my very favorite things to do! What a cool series!
And great low price on a used version, too! You’ve gotta love Amazon!

I finally got these pictures of my sweet son at his first showing at the ’art gallery’ (read: the public library).
This first one is a shot of him outside at the library’s sign, kind of a cool pic.

And this one is ‘the artist with his work’.

Yep, yep - that’s my boy! My sweet little artist!

This post is totally unrelated to reading, but, pertains to a subject equally as enriching and nourishing - art! This month is Youth Art Month, and in celebration of this, our public library is displaying art by our school district elementary ‘artists’. Our school picked five students to have their artwork on display. My middle son, the fifth grader, was one of those chosen. Although we are a large school district and there was a lot of artwork there, it was still really neat! They held a reception for the featured artists last night, and my little featured artist got all filled up on cookies! I took some neat pictures so I will have to learn how to post pictures on here.
And while I’m working on that, you:
